Level 1 Accreditation

Guide to becoming a Level One Coach


The TBA Level 1 coaching accreditation is the first level of accreditation within the TBA Coaching Framework. The Level 1 course is offered online.

Participants of the TBA Level 1 coaching course will be offered the skills work with new people to tenpin bowling including school children, juniors, new adult bowlers and people with a disability. Level 1 coaches will gain the knowledge and skills to deliver beginner bowling programs including Sporting Schools and Bowling 101.

Level 1 coaches will be able to provide a learning environment that nurtures basic skill development, enjoyment of the sport, foster the principles of fair play and develop the understanding of rules and regulations within sport for program participants.

The TBA Level 1 coaching program covers fundamentals that apply to junior, youth and adult bowlers. Coaches will be competent in understanding the following topics:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a coach;
  • Progression of skills from two-handed delivery to the basic four-step approach;
  • Sport safety;
  • Maintaining a positive teaching approach and environment;
  • Adding fun to your youth program;
  • An overview of programs and opportunities; and
  • Analyze video case studies.

Minimum Requirements

  • Candidates must be at least 16 years of age;
  • Candidates must hold a current TBA Sports Registration; and
  • Candidates must hold a current Working with Children check from their state of residence.

Enrollment Process

The enrollment process for the Level 1 Accreditation is (printable checklist):

Complete the following forms:

  • New Coach Registration Form
  • Coach / Official Code of Behaviour Individual Agreement (included in above link)
  • Personal Character Declaration for Coaches and Officials (included in above link)
  • Make payment - credit card, cheque or bank transfer (proof of transfer required)
  • 2 suitable photos:
    Head and shoulders included in the photo
    • No other people visible in the photo
    • Single coloured background
    • You can smile
    • High quality photo (sent via post) or jpeg (sent via email)
